The great thing about this lock is that it is stylish. Some keyless locks can be large and garish, yet SoHoMill have brought this electronic lock out and it really does suit a vast array of doors. You really do get exactly what you see here. A traditional door knob with buttons as opposed to a key-lock, there’s almost no visible change to what you will be used to. Roundly viewed as one of the best piece of keyless locking kits on the market, I’d like to take you through a few of the key points, best bits and little niggles that make this lock what it is.

What’s great?

There are a few things that I find really great about the SoHoMiLL YL 99 Keyless Electronic Keypad Lock, Adjustable latch backset 2 3/8-Inch to 2 3/4-Inch, some I’ve touched upon already and some I’m yet to:

• The sleek, trendy design on this handle and lock mean that this product is built for the home. I think one preconception about these types of devices is that they’re sometimes made for an industrial unit, therefore must look hard on the eye. Not this, though. It really suits any type of home door.
• You can put it together yourself. This factor is a quiet bonus. Often what can drive you away from a product is the idea that once you get it you need to be an expert in construction just to be able to use the thing. Don’t worry, here. The components are self-explanatory and the instruction manual will help you all the way. I swear, though – you won’t need it.
• This lock operates with one master lock number, but allows up to 8 different key codes for entry. The piece of mind with this is that you can still control the lock yourself, but family, friends and neighbors will still have the ability to have their own code but you can own full license to that.
• This fits in a standard installation section. Another real set-up bonus here, but it just helps ease of use: you can take out your old, standard-sized key lock and install this kit in the same place. Now try and tell me that isn’t something you were looking for?
• The auto-lock feature in the SoHoMiLL lock is great. 3 seconds after entering the code the handle will automatically reset, providing maximum security after leaving the door.

What’s not so great?

There are really only few small negatives with this model as it really is impressive. Some of the set-backs are as follows:

• There is no ‘hold’ lock in case you want to keep the door open behind you. As I say above, this is really only a small issue because this feature was taken away to provide maximum security at all times, but you know as well as I that sometimes when you’re carrying in the shopping or trouncing through the house that you could well do with the door being unlocked for an extended period.
• The lock makes beeping noises when you enter the key code. Myself, I’m unsure why this needs to be part of the package. It’s an unneeded feature and almost acts as an ‘announcement’ to the locals that you’re entering the home. Again, not a massive issue, but it would be great if you could turn this off. But unfortunately you can’t.

Our Conclusion

If I’m being totally honest, I think you’re going to love this SoHoMiLL YL 99 Keyless Electronic Keypad Lock, Adjustable latch backset 2 3/8-Inch to 2 3/4-Inch lock. It’s a nice addition to the home both literally and visually. It’s also really easy to use. The fact that you can store 8 key codes into the machine and delete each them (separately) just as easy is a really handy feature. If you’re going on a trip, or even want to give someone the ability to enter your home, you can do so safe in the knowledge that as soon as you’re back you can close off their entry code.I really think this product is for anyone, but it seems to be marketed if not directly, then through design, at families. Being able to install this yourself, easily is really handy, but also really quick. There’s no worries to be had here, and the prime function of the SoHoMiLL YL99 works perfectly: a safe choice for a safe house.
